Vestkapp

The hotel is located in Norway’s western-most cliff with an astonishing view to the surrounding islands and the ocean. Vestkapp is well known for its stormy weather, which has been causing a great harm to the building located in close proximity. Considering this unique location the building was designed to maximize the view and avoid strong winds.

The centrepiece of the project both directly and indirectly is the winter garden that becomes the connecting point of the hotel rooms on one side and the restaurant with the spa on the other. Some of the herbs and plants grown here are served in the restaurant, while the waste is partly composted in the garden.  The rainwater, the grey water from the restaurant, the spa and the hotel rooms are filtered and used for irrigation.

The restaurant and the hotel rooms have a panoramic view to the ocean and large terraces. The spa is also oriented towards the ocean and has large outdoor areas with heated pools.

The façade of the building is covered by biotite gneiss tiles. Biotite gneiss is the main component of surrounding rocks in Vestkapp. The interiors have a prevailing amount of wooden finishing, both for the walls and the floors.
